How to choose

Different products, different techniques.

1Sublimation
2UV printing
3Engraving
4Toner transfer

There is no single best way to decorate a product — it depends on the material, the finish you want and the volume you run. Sublimation excels on polyester and coated blanks. UV printing prints full colour onto flat, rigid surfaces. Engraving cuts a permanent mark into wood, metal and more. Toner transfer presses laser-printed designs onto fabric and hard goods. Below, each technique in detail — followed by our finished product lines.

Sublimation.
Technique 01

Sublimation.

Heat turns solid ink into gas, bonding it into polyester fabric and specially coated blanks. The result is vivid, edge-to-edge colour that is part of the surface itself — it won’t crack, peel or fade. Ideal for apparel, mugs, photo panels and soft goods produced at volume.

  • Best for polyester & coated blanks
  • Vivid, full-surface colour
  • Durable — won’t crack or peel

Technique 02

UV printing.

A UV flatbed printer lays full colour straight onto flat, rigid surfaces and cures it instantly with UV light — no coating or pre-treatment needed. White and varnish inks add finishes on dark or transparent materials. Perfect for tiles, puzzles, mousepads, wood, metal and acrylic.

  • Prints directly on rigid materials
  • No coating or pre-treatment
  • White & varnish for any surface

Engraving.
Technique 03

Engraving.

Engraving cuts a permanent mark into the material itself — no ink at all. It produces a precise, tactile finish on wood, metal, leather, glass and acrylic, with the natural contrast of the material doing the work. Ideal for premium, long-lasting personalisation.

  • Permanent — cut into the material
  • Tactile, premium finish
  • Wood, metal, leather, glass & more

Toner transfer.
Technique 04

Toner transfer.

A design is laser-printed onto transfer paper or film, then pressed onto the product with heat — the toner bonds straight to the surface. It works on fabric and hard goods without the polyester requirement of sublimation, which makes it a flexible, low-setup route to full-colour personalisation.

  • Works on fabric & hard goods
  • No polyester coating required
  • Low setup — fast to start

Photo finishing.

Photo finishing is where Technotape started — our original collection and the foundation the company was built on. It is still part of what we offer today, including some genuinely unique items that are hard to find anywhere else. And with the revival of analogue 35mm film, this part of our range is drawing renewed interest. Browse the collection to take a look.
